This week I'm sharing Ms. K's boudoir session in hopes that it inspires other mamas to embrace their ever-changing bodies. When I first met her, Ms. K was a bit quiet & I wasn't sure what to expect once we started shooting, but wowza! This mother of three brought sexy back! I think there's something that happens inside of a woman after she's created another human, it's like she knows her power even more so than before. & man, did Ms. K BRING. IT. One of the best parts? She was all about showing off her stretch marks & embracing the stripes she's earned. (For those that want a different look, the level of retouching is ALWAYS up to the client.) Below you can get her thoughts on motherhood, self love, & the boudoir experience at Prince Portrait!

Hey, Ms. K! Please share some insider info about yourself!

I'm a momma of three feral boys who are literally everything to me. (They're obviously amazing, not actually feral children, haha!) I've been holding my man hostage for seven years and I'm telling you, these boys are our greatest adventure. I love to bake, mostly because I love to eat; and there's not a day too cold or hot that I'm not wanting to go outside. Give me comfy clothes and a cold day and I'll be in my zone.

What foods do you crave? What shows do you binge? What makes you swoon?

Chocolate chip cookies and good coffee ALWAYS. Currently binging Girlfriends Guide To Divorce... if you haven't seen, DO IT. I'm a sucker for the little things, a note or text that just says he's thinking of me. Something like, "Your eyes are so blue, I'm sup lucky." Done. Over. I'm a puddle on the floor..... (or super easy?)

What is your favorite non-physical thing about yourself?

My perseverance, and how I can always see the positive no matter how bad the outcome.

What's one random thing that you're really good at?

I've mastered the art of getting four people ready in less than 10 minutes. My goal is five people!

Go to karaoke song?

My girl, Shania Twain... "Man, I Feel Like A Woman"

Biggest fear?

Not being enough for my boys.

Where does most of your time & energy go?

Describe your perfect hot dog?

Burnt and plain.

What are you really proud of? Permission to humblebrag!

I'm proud of everything I've been able to overcome, I'm proud of what we've been able to provide for my boys being so young and on our own.  And the family we created; my perfect, wild mess of little humans.

Where would we find you on a Friday night?

My house! It's movie and pizza night!

What hobbies or passions do you pursue or wish you had more time for?

Running. I'm sure that sounds stupid, but that hobby alone reminds me that I'm more than just momma and I need to take that time for myself. Boring answer, but at least it wasn't another gushing story about my kids.

Have you ever struggled with loving yourself or your body?

Absolutely! Especially after my third because I was in such great shape before him. Honestly, if you've had a child, you HAVE to remember the hard ass work your body has gone through for a year, treat it delicately and with love. It has worked too hard and it has allowed me to carry three boys full term AND breastfeed them. It might not look like it did before, but it shows the memories and experiences I never want to forget. So what if everything's a little lower!

Had you ever had an intimate portrait session before?

This was the first time and I can't wait to do another!

What was your main reason for booking a boudoir session?

I knew I needed to show myself that I was more than the tired, taken for granted, typical mom I saw every day in the mirror. So I just fucking made myself go do it! And I'm SO glad I did.

What makes you feel sexy or beautiful?

The right playlist, and feeling cozy if that even make sense.

Did you have any doubts or fears leading up to the session? What made you stick with it?

Oh yeah!! I got some negative feedback from a family member because I had been two months postpartum when I was getting them done so I was dealing with body insecurities, but I have an awesome sister and great girlfriends that were so supportive.

Can you tell us how you felt walking into the session, versus when you left? What happened during the shoot to change your perspective or mood?

I WAS SHAKING!! What really kinda did it for me & helped me calm down, was Megan sitting and chatting with me for a little while. Then I started hearing the music and took that breath and the shaking stopped and I felt like I was at a friend's house.

How did you THINK you would feel about your images? How did you REALLY feel?

I thought I'd be embarrassed and would regret them. It was so out of character for me so I was nervous to see the outcome! How I felt about them was completely different! I went home and cried because I was so happy and, it sounds weird, but I didn't see mom, I saw Katie. So now when I'm having a shitty day and I need a boost, I flip through my album and... instant confidence!

What was your favorite thing about the entire experience?

That's kinda a tough question! Honestly, just the experience itself, if that makes sense! I can't pinpoint one thing! The experience of getting pampered with hair and makeup, to the feeling of being in front of the camera, ALL of it!

What would you say to someone who is thinking about booking their own session?

JUST DO IT!!! The only thing you would regret is NOT going through with it! One day when you're 60 you'll want to look back at yourself! It's so freeing and fun and you'll gain so much from it!

I would love to help you bare your beauty & flaunt your foxy!
